We Wont Let This Storm Rain on Our Parade!

7/16/2014

What a storm! After a sweltering hot day a massive thunderstorm rolled over camp.  Luckily for us, it was in the middle of dinnertime.  All of camp, with the exception of the groups who were cooking out whom later joined us, were safe and sound and also dry in the dining hall.  After dinner everyone sang a few camp songs and before we knew it the storm lightened up a bit.  Following dinner we had a wet free time. Many campers played games like apples to apples and monopoly in the dining hall. Some campers went to the craft shop, and others hung out in the Environmental center.  Even though it may have been a wet free time and campers stayed indoors, it sure was a fun one!

In the evening pre-scheduled activities were altered a bit.  Instead of having a beach bonfire for homestead, the water front staff held a luau in the dining hall! One fun activity at the luau was paper bag skits.  Each group was given a paper bag filled with props that they had to base a skit around.  Homestead got their creative juices flowing and produced some pretty wonderful skits!  H-1 was creative enough to make theirs about reindeer!

Another activity that was altered was water aerobics.  Girls Pioneer and the pathfinders all met up in the pioneer pavilion where they aerobicized with George and Melissa. Even though it was out of water, we all still had a blast. Another awesome evening activity that did not need to be changed at all was scary stories with Lars! Lars (the camp driver) has a knack for storytelling.  He has groups join him in our Rec Hall where he tells them spooky tales by candle light.

Today camp is still a bit wet but groups are making do. Maddy and Sarah are tie dying with the masses in the craft shop.  The adventure staff are playing board games in the dining hall with groups who were signed up for activities with them and the pool staff are playing camp games with all of the groups during swim block.  All in all camp is doing just fine in the rain! We may be a little wet but our spirits are still high!

Peace!

Melissa
