Winding Up and Winding Down

8/5/2014

Yesterday was the first full day of our last session here at camp for summer 2014. Most of us staffers are wondering how that happened since it seems like just yesterday we were waiting for first session to
arrive! It’s been a wonderful summer, but it’s not over yet! We still have one more action packed week to go, and it’s now in full swing!

Yesterday in Boy’s Homestead, H1 had day of water activities consisting of Get-To-Know-You games in the bay, swim block, free swim, and sailing! H2 learned about our resident wildlife in our environmental center (EC) with Paul. H3 channeled their inner-Robin Hoods with some archery, and H4 hear some scary stories at the “haunted” Rec Hall, while H11 heard scary stories at the EC tower.

In Girl’s Homestead, H5 battled it out with H10 in some “Canoe Swamping”. The object of the game is to get as much water in your opponent’s boat as you bail out your own! Also at the waterfront, H6 and H7 went banana boating and had a blast. H8 helped Paul at the EC with some gardening and learned all about our residential chicken friends. And H9 did a night time swim called “Monk Swim” to round out their day!

Out in Pioneer, the ladies of P6 and P2 went paddle boarding at the bay. The boys of P7 went on a double-blocked canoe trip in the afternoon, and P5 went kayaking. P4 worked on making a grass hut at
high ropes course that has been a work in progress this summer. P3 did some relaxing sand painting in the pioneer pavilion. The girls of P1 had an awesome lunch cookout of gluten-free cowboy mac, using fresh veggies from our garden. Cowboy mac is like mac and cheese, but a thousand times better with the inclusion of tomato soup, beef, veggies, and chili powder. And the adventure pathfinders did our compound archery range with a twist of trying to hit apples, and one skillful camper made a bull’s eye!

Well that’s all for now, here’s to a great final session here at Arrowhead!

Peace,

Emma
